Onondaga County War
Memorial
Syracuse, NY ~ December 7, 2012
Like a few of these mid-century civic arenas, it is not a full oval, but more like a horseshoe, with a proscenium and stage at one end. The barrel-vaulted roof means that one can stand in the last row and touch the ceiling. There was the usual array of banners denoting previous tenants, and while the seats have obviously been replaced at some point, the place still had the feel of an old-time arena, which is cool.
My seat was in the Syracuse defensive zone
but I went down to Hamilton's side for warmups because their uniforms are so
much more interesting and photogenic. I pretty much put my camera away during
the game which Syracuse won 5-1.
A couple shots from "backstage."
Some former Crunch player was in town to sign autographs.
Above the memorial hall is a wall with names of the war dead.
Yours truly.
