Citi Field
April 4, 2009 ~ Queens, NY
New York Mets 3 vs. Boston Red Sox 9

It's not quite like getting that first glimpse of the big old scoreboard at Shea and its huge Budweiser sign. Today's old-timers might be nostalgic for signage of days gone by, like the Rheingold sign at the Polo Grounds, but in 40 or 50 years, will anyone reminisce about that FreeCreditReport.com sign, or that plain old IZOD sign? The ads are eye-catching for sure, but not in the way that good ads are eye-catching.

From our seat in section 524 of the upper deck, we could not see the left field corner. Much was said about how the new stadiums are supposed to have all seats angled toward the infield so that fans won't miss any of the action. turns out that Citi Field actually has quite a few obstructed view seats. (You can see in the lower left corner of the photo how the upper deck cuts over into fair territory of the playing field.)

Only a small pile of dirt remains where Shea Stadium stood. Compare with this view from January 2009.

Citi Field hovers immediately above the Iron Triangle.
