Citi Field and the Iron Triangle

Immediately east of the new New York Mets stadium is a zone of auto-body shops and scrapyards known as the Iron Triangle. The New York Mets and New York City government officials are doing their best to evict all existing businesses from this area so that hotels, restaurants, bars and convention halls can be built here. Perceived by some as an eyesore, the Iron Triangle is home to many long-standing, legitimate businesses that pay tens of thousands of dollars per year in taxes and receive little to no municipal services in return, resulting in seriously dilapidated road surfaces, among other municipal deficiencies. New York City may well be allowing the infrastructure to decay, perhaps so that the area can be condemned and be redeveloped, and profited from, by a select few who happen to be friends of the City or the Mets. The existing businesses may be given little or no option of relocating and may be forced to cease operations entirely.
