Target Field
Minneapolis, MN ~ December 19, 2008

The Minnesota Twins are building a new baseball stadium in downtown Minneapolis. Named for the Target department stores, the stadium sits right behind the Target Center basketball arena and at the edge of the Warehouse District, which is now home to trendy nightclubs and converted condos. Target Field is scheduled to open for the 2010 season, at which point the NFL's Vikings will be the only major-pro tenant of the Metrodome, also located in downtown Minneapolis. The Twins previously played in the suburban Metropolitan Stadium, which was demolished and the site of which is now covered by the Mall of America. Like Metropolitan Stadium was, the new Twiins' field will be an open-air stadium. Funny that we are now going back to the ways of baseball-only stadiums in downtown locations, when many of the old parks were rejected in the 1960s and 1970s in favor of gigantic multi-purpose venues surrounded by acres and acres of parking lots. Will the pendulum once again swing back in another 30 or 50 years?

Looking north. A light-rail stop appears to be under construction here as well.
